Job Description
At United Airlines, the Corporate Communications department develops focused proactive communications that anticipate challenges, lead the narrative, and enable consistent strategic messaging in a rapid and dynamic environment. The department is comprised of several functions including Internal Communications, External Communications, Advertising and Social Media, Strategic Planning, Global Community Engagement, and Creative Services.
Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:
Duties and Responsibilities
Develop social media content that appeals to our key, younger demo of 18-22 year olds
Draft media materials including press releases, media alerts, messaging documents, etc.
Manage and update media databases including media lists and editorial calendars
Engage media with proactive outreach to pitch United stories
Reactively respond to select media inquiries on behalf of United
Assist at the archives sorting, inventorying, assessing condition of artifacts
Develop mechanism to receive feedback on our internal comms channels from front line employees including digital survey, focus groups
Audit the employee spaces at the airport, bases, etc., what are employees seeing in their everyday related to United messaging, gather and consolidate findings, make recommendation on next steps
Assist with sorting, inventorying, assessing condition of artifacts
Take daily analysis of content performance and provide stats – page views, open rates, click rates, video views, comment sentiment, etc.
Spend time looking through all of the submissions coming into our Share Your Stories portal and help us identify stories
Pick up some fun, easy stories to write about
Scan our social media platforms, specifically #beingunited, to search for potential employee stories for internal team to tell
Log and archive video footage
Assist at video shoots
Job Requirements
Applicant must be a current undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor's degree in PR/Advertising, Communications, or a related field
Highly organized and self-motivated, with excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities and ensure attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
Must be comfortable talking to and collaborating with a variety of partners
Confident performing data analysis to arrive at insights and develop recommendations
Proven proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Position will be hybrid, with time spent at home as well as at Willis tower in Chicago
Intern duration is 12 weeks during Summer
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship now and in the future
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
