Job Description
An opportunity for an Airside Operations Officer has become available at Aberdeen International Airport. This role is for 40 hours per week, with shift work covering 24hr operation, 7 days per week.
To maintain a high level of airfield and apron safety, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and local management instructions. In addition, to deliver high standards of customer service to internal and external customers and business partners through the efficient operation of the Airport Consolidated Control Centre whilst combining this with effective and accurate stand allocation, flight and airfield information services.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure that safety is given the highest priority at all times in meeting operational standards through inspection and audit, ensuring that fault reporting and follow-up actions are recorded. Carry out regular safety inspections of the airfield (runways, taxiways, grass areas, and aprons) ensuring that all hazards to aircraft operation or personnel are identified, recorded and acted upon as necessary. In addition, check the serviceability of lighting systems both on and off the airfield and report any off airfield hazards to aircraft such as cranes, or other obstructions.
Carry out regular bird patrols and disperse if necessary using an appropriate method. Record an accurate log of species observed, their location and dispersal technique used. Monitor bird activity both on and off airfield and record any trends or changes to patterns. Participate in bird culls when necessary.
Provide marshalling assistance and safety escorts to aircraft as required and, as directed, assist with additional safety related functions relating to the safe operation of the airfield. Assist and escort emergency services and control authorities and provide support during accident and emergency situations.
Maintain an enhanced knowledge on the correct operation of all live systems present in the Airport Control Centre including the operation of Chroma Fusion and Chroma Assign along with other operational systems using information obtained from ATC, airlines, handling agents and other business partners and amend/relocate stands as necessary on a real time basis responding to changing operational needs and priorities.
Monitor and manage the conduct and safety of all contractors and engineers working airside, carry out site hand over inspections and ensure that all relevant safety documentation and permits are in order.
Ensure that all personnel working airside comply with statutory instructions and local airport notices and take appropriate action to maintain high standards of safety airside and minimise the environmental impact of airside operations primarily by monitoring standards of vehicle maintenance and through the prudent use of anti-icing chemicals.
Promote close liaison with internal and external customers and business partners to foster co-operation in all areas, particularly with regard to airfield safety. Ensure Airfield Operations delivers a customer focused and professional service and listens and understands customers’ concerns and motives. Disseminate important information regarding the operational status of the airfield and other safety advice to a wide range of customers and business partners.
During winter operation conditions provide assistance to the Airfield Duty Supervisor as required returning the airfield as quickly as possible to a fully operational condition. Undertake runway surface friction tests, disseminating the results to ATC and the Airfield Operations and undertake the de-icing/anti-icing operations in an efficient and effective manner when instructed to do so.
Develop solutions to issues raised with due regard to safety and other operational and environmental constraints. Monitor the activities of all airside operators and, in accordance with CAP 642 and local safety procedures, investigate all incidents and accidents airside
Communicate effectively at all levels both orally and in writing. Be a highly motivated individual able to play an active role in the change management process and work effectively under pressure often without direct supervision.
Deputise for the Airfield Duty Supervisor as and when required.
To co-operate with a number of organisations and operational departments including Police Scotland, UK Border Force, Airport Fire service, Security, Engineering, Airside Operations and the Terminal team.
Utilising all aspects of the CCTV and alarm system to carry out terminal and airport patrols to ensure the terminal and airfield is secure and any potential safety and security risks are identified and that the presence of any personnel is justified and that airside to landside doors are secure.
Provide key support during operational emergency situations, assisting to allocate staff to primary locations and liaising with the Airport Duty manager and Airfield Duty Supervisor to ensure a safe and efficient process and return to normal operations as quickly as possible.
Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external bodies to ensure an effective integrated response to emergency situations and promote a professional image of AGS airport Limited.
Ensure serviceability of lighting systems both on and off the airfield.
Disseminate relevant information to internal and external customers as required regarding the operational status of the airfield and other safety advice.
Complete documentation, recording incidents in a clear and concise manner as required.
Read and adhere to Safety Notices, Managing Directors Notice’s, Managing Directors Directive’s, Post Orders and Staff Operating Procedure’s in order to Ensure compliance with Company Health and Safety Policies, taking personal responsibility for employing safe working practices to minimise risk to self, work colleagues and customers.
Job Requirements
Airside driving experience preferred but not essential.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Firearms Certificate.
A practical knowledge and understanding of airside operational practices and procedures. A good understanding of contingency planning and business continuity plans would be an advantage.
A specific safety, environmental or airside operations qualification would be a distinct advantage
A good standard of education, preferably educated to higher education level or with relevant operational experience.
Keyboard skills and ability to use bespoke computer packages is essential.
Knowledge of the Airport Security Operation is preferred.
The ability to communicate clearly at all levels of the organisation and with external organisations both orally and in writing with confidence and diplomacy.
