Job Description
The Chief Pilot will be based in Calgary. This individual will be the designated Chief Pilot as required under the Canadian Aviation Regulations and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Swoop Airlines aircraft, including administration of matters pertaining to Flight Crew training, examination, competency testing, line operations and operating limitations of aircraft and crew. The Chief Pilot is a critical member of Swoop's leadership team and will be a role model and inspirational leader across the entire flight operations department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:
To ensure the standards of Pilot training meet Transport Canada and Company requirements;
The development and maintenance of approved programs in accordance with the Approved Check Pilot (ACP) Manual;
The appointment and supervision of training and check pilots and to ensure duties are conducted in accordance with the Pilot Training Manual (PTM);
To ensure the required competency of new Pilots;
To ascertain the operational suitability and requirements of all aerodromes and routes served by the Company;
The issuance of directives and notices to Flight Crews, as required;
The development of examinations required to test the knowledge of Flight Crew personnel;
The professional standards of the Flight Crews under his authority;
The administration and maintenance of the Flight Crew licensing, qualification and record keeping requirements;
The development and maintenance of the Aircraft Operations Manual (AOM), the Pilot Training Manual (PTM) and the Minimum Equipment List (MEL);
The processing and actioning of Incident Hazard Reports (IHRs), as they relate to piloting issues;
To liaise with the Senior Leader - Inflight on matters pertaining to operational issues involving cabin safety;
The implementation of corrective action(s) to eliminate/reduce the root cause(s) or probably causes(s) of hazards, incidents and accidents, identified under the Safety Management System (SMS);
Liaise with external agencies which may affect training and standards.
Job Requirements
Must meet Transport Canada qualifications for 705 operations including;
Must hold a valid Airline Transport Pilot’s License, a valid Instrument Rating for which a Canadian type certificate has been issued authorizing the transport of 20 or more passengers;
Must have at least 3 years aeroplane experience as Pilot-in-Command in the weight group more than 100,000 lbs;
Be able to demonstrate knowledge to the Minister with respect to the content of the entire series of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs);
Swoop Airlines Company Operations Manuals, the Approved Check Pilot Manual and the provisions of the Canadian Aviation Regulations and Standards necessary to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position;
Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills with demonstrated success in establishing respect and credibility through actions;
Previous managerial and supervisory experience with strong demonstrated facilitation, coaching and mentoring skills required;
Personal record in relation to aviation shall not include: any conviction under subsection 7.3(1) of the Aeronautics Act; or two or more convictions, occurring during separate unrelated events, under the Aeronautics Act;
Strong working knowledge of M.S. Office and Power Point;
