Duties and Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:
Ensures the protection & safeguard of personnel, US Mail, and property; in that order
Assists drivers in unloading mail transport equipment (MTE) from tractor-trailers
Positions MTE in a neat & organized fashion in the staging areas
Reviews air container dispatch & routing tags for accuracy prior to scanning and building mail
Reports bad air container dispatch & routing tags to the supervisor
Inspects air containers for damage & reports damage to the supervisor
Ensures all mail units within each air container are scanned under the correct parent barcode
Ensures that each mail unit is reviewed for proper destination & routing prior to being placed in the intended air container, by verifying the routing tags on the mail
Ensures that all mail units are handled with care so as not to damage any parcels
Ensures all available space within each air container is utilized and filled with mail
Communicates mis-sent, unlabeled, damaged & other exception mail units found to the supervisor for proper handling and distribution
Ensures empty MTE leaving the building area are directed to their intended storage area
Ensures building areas are stocked & replenished with full mail MTE once empty MTE are removed
Pulls large air containers across ball-decking/slave-pallets to the truck loading area
Ensures safe and proper loading of air containers on tractor-trailers
Ensures all mail is cleared from both the floor & containers at the end of the operation
Maintains a neat work area to prevent possible tripping hazards and obstructions
Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Must be 18 years of age or older
Possess a valid US Driver’s License
Minimum 5-year US Residency Required
Must pass pre-employment drug screen
Must meet Selective Service requirements (seesss.gov)
Ability to proficiently read, write and speak English
Ability to lift and move up to 70lbs
Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work.
Must pass background check and obtain US Custom seal
Must have a High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to learn quickly
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and request clarification when needed
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to build relationships
