Job Description
Are you looking for a career in Finance and the airline industry? Want to be part of a business that is innovating and exciting? Here at Virgin Atlantic, we are very excited to be recruiting our second wave of Finance Apprentices starting in September 2020!
This is an incredible opportunity for motivated individuals to pursue their real passion for Aviation and Finance specifically. As one of our Finance Apprentices you'll learn from many established and credible experts in their fields.
You’ll have the opportunity to develop your business skills while completing formal training and studying towards your qualifications. Our industry leading training provider will enrol you on a 4 year programme, allowing you to gain a professional accounting qualification and invaluable exposure to the world-class Finance function at Virgin Atlantic. You’ll be coached by experts and there will be no need to worry about paying for course or exam fees, textbooks or revision materials.
In return for your hard work we will help you to obtain your professional ACCA qualification while supporting you every step of the way (CIMA is also available on request). As an added bonus, you’ll have earned the equivalent of a master’s degree without being saddled with any University debt.
Benefits and Offers
Salary: Starting at circa £16,000 per annum rising to more than £35,000 over the course of the apprenticeship plus training plus excellent benefits. The starting salary will be increased if the national living wage increases before the start of the contract.
We recognise the value you add to our dynamic company. That's why we give our people the rewards that they deserve. We have a whole host of benefits to help you enjoy life to the full, including up to seven flights a year to a wide range of fabulous Virgin Atlantic destinations. Of course you can also take advantage of discounts on our amazing Virgin Holidays hotels. We also offer a competitive benefits package including pension and private medical schemes and life assurance. You can even self select whats important to you through our benefits portal. We appreciate that life is busy, so when operationally possible remote working is available.
Duties and Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:
Throughout the apprentice scheme, no two days will be the same. The training programme that we have devised will see you start your journey within our Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable departments where you will be entering invoice and expense data and also billing and collecting debt on behalf of our business.
After a year with Working Capital you will progress onto Financial Accounting. You’ll start the journey of turning data into meaningful financial information which the business relies on to measure performance and make decisions about the organisations future.
Finally, you’ll spend 15 months working in Finance Business Partnering. You’ll need to use all the knowledge gained during the previous 3 years (and more) when going out into business. Beyond Finance you’ll ensure the organisation is achieving the goals set by the leadership team, isn’t overlooking great opportunities and, as always, making sure the numbers stack up!
During the programme you’ll also spend some time with our Internal Audit and Taxation functions, ensuring you’re exposed to the full range of possibilities on offer in Finance.
You will be learning the basic principles of accounting, be exposed to a live operation, gain hands-on practical experience and work as part of the team.
Job Requirements
We expect a lot of our Finance Apprentices and it’s important that you’re excited, eager to learn and possess a real passion for Finance, Aviation and Virgin Atlantic. You will need to have 5 GCSEs at A*-C or 4-9 (including English Language and Maths) and a minimum of 104 UCAS points under the 2017 UCAS tariff points system (e.g. BCC at A-Level or equivalent qualifications).
If you are yet to complete your A-Levels, no problem. You could still be made a conditional offer which will be subject to meeting the UCAS points described above when you complete your A-Level. All that we ask is that you show the subjects that you study, your grades and/or your predicted grades on your CV when you apply.
It's really important that you're a collaborative teammate who is happy to work with others to get the job done. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal are key to this position. In training and within the team, we will need you to communicate key information to others around you to ensure that all tasks are completed successfully.
If you are keen to start your career and earn a salary as early as possible with phenomenal benefits then this will be for you. Also, if you prefer on-the-job learning, like to challenge yourself and are a motivated individual looking for a fantastic career opportunity then consider stepping into the exciting world of Finance - we would love to hear from you.
