    Job Description

    The Duty Manager, Inflight Crew Scheduling is responsible for executing on the strategy for Inflight Crew Scheduling at Alaska Airlines. As a people leader, the Duty Manager leads and establishes priorities for a team of inflight crew schedulers in their day-to-day operation to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Association (FAA), collective bargaining agreement (CBA), and company policy and processes for all flight attendant assignments and applicable contracts.

    As a people leader, the Duty Manager oversees a group of inflight crew schedulers and is the primary point of contact for all Alaska Airlines Flight Attendants and Inflight base leadership with regards to contractual interpretation, staffing challenges and Inflight Crew Scheduling impacts.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:

    • Leads team and establishes priorities for Inflight Crew Scheduling.

    • Executes on strategy of Inflight Crew Scheduling focusing on the daily operation with an eye on weekly, monthly, and quarterly scheduling needs and operational factors including, but not limited to, irregular operations, SWAP, emergency response, and service recovery.

    • Makes decisions regarding daily operations of crew scheduling personnel including staffing, scheduling, and ensuring compliance to FARs (Federal Aviation Regulations), CBAs (Collective Bargaining Agreements), TSA (Transportation Security Administration) and department procedures.

    • Measure, analyze, and audit key performance metrics division-wide in the areas of safety, on-time performance, employee injuries, and sick leave.

    • Acts as the Inflight Scheduling subject matter expert within Systems Operations Control (SOC) and serves as primary point of contact for Inflight Leaders, Flight Attendants, Association Flight Attendants (AFA), and other SOC employees in regards to contractual interpretation, staffing challenges and Inflight Crew Scheduling impacts.

    • Partners with the AFA Scheduling Chair, Scheduling Committee, and Reserve Committee to resolve FA issues and concerns.

    • Initiates EFI (Extreme Flight Irregularity), Extended Tarmac Delay, and Global Notification (Medial alert) follow up communications to base leadership, divisional leadership, and affected personnel, and serves as a continuing primary point of contact.

    • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.

    • Shape culture of team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.


    Job Requirements

    • 5 years of experience in aviation, airline operations, transportation operations, or equivalent experience.

    • 2 years of leadership experience.

    • Bachelor's degree, or an additional two years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.

    • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule to include 8, 10, 12 hour shifts.

    • High school diploma or equivalent.

    • Minimum age of 18.

    • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

    • Preferred Qualifications

    • A Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in Business Administration or a related field.

    • Experience in the development of policy and procedures.

    • Experience partnering with Union groups and Union leadership

    • Experience managing multiple mid-sized projects.

    • Demonstrated ability to lead implementation of forward thinking guidelines and procedures across the enterprise.

    • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

    • Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening) and comfortable with public speaking

    • Strong working knowledge of airline/inflight operations with outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of Alaska, outside contractors, and regulatory authorities.

    • Strong organizational skills, confidence in decision-making, conflict management, and resiliency

    • Ability and willingness to work in a high-pressure environment and be able to handle several projects and tasks simultaneously while delivering results.
