Benefits and Offers
A 12 month fixed-term contract paying £14,250 per year, those based in London will receive £18,810.
Industry training delivered by the BBC Academy from specialists and senior BBC and freelance production staff.

Duties and Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities in this role include the following:
We have placement opportunities in Salford, Bristol and London. Each apprentice will spend their time on the scheme in one of these bases learning the foundation skills of media production. As well as learning on-the-job, in their placement, apprentices also receive bespoke training from the BBC Academy and study towards a Level 3 advanced apprenticeship either as a Broadcast Production Assistant or as a Junior Content Producer.
Every apprentice will also specialise in one of the following three production areas (pathways): Production Management; Editorial or Craft Skills. On your application form we will ask you a question on each of these areas to help you, and us, decide which might be of the most interest, and best fit, for you. And don’t worry, we’re expecting you to answer some of these questions better than others!
Production Management pathway, working towards a Production Management Assistant role: To follow this pathway you will need good planning and organisational skills and great attention to detail. You will be an excellent communicator. As part of the wider production team you will focus on assisting the production management team in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the production and your tasks may include learning about schedules and budgets; booking transport and travel for crew and contributors; booking kit; completing production and post production paperwork e.g. sorting out copyright issues. This role centres on providing administrative and logistic support to the team.
Editorial, working towards a role as a Runner, Junior Researcher or Content Assistant: To follow the editorial pathway you must have a passion for creating content and for developing ideas. You may be working as a Runner or Content Assistant in the production office, in studio or on location. You will provide a wide range of support to the production team. This could include some administrative and logistics tasks as well as basic research for locations, contributors, props; assisting crew with camera kit; distributing call sheets/scripts; looking after crew and contributors on shoots – making cups of tea!
Both production management and editorial roles require you to support the production team with general duties. These can include booking and collecting kit (and ensuring it is returned safely and intact); photocopying; answering phone calls and emails; setting up locations; looking after contributors and sorting out travel and accommodation needs etc.
Craft Skills pathway, working towards a Studio Manager role (Radio) or Camera Operator role (Newsgathering): To follow either of these pathways you will be someone who wants learn the technical skills required to capture and broadcast footage (sound or visual).
Craft Skills (Radio) – if you want to learn how a radio studio works and if you’re interested in sound and radio as a way of reaching the audience, then this could be the pathway for you. We want to hear from people who are excited by new technology and we’re especially keen in hearing from people who are passionate about telling stories and reaching new radio audiences via our digital platforms.
Craft Skills (Newsgathering): choose this pathway if you want to learn how to film, edit and produce content for radio, TV and digital news. You could be asked to help plan stories and set up locations and contributors, or you could be working in live broadcasts or on location. Apprentices working here will work to a shift pattern, often outdoors and for our flagship News programmes in busy and sometimes difficult environments. Some of the stories you might cover could be challenging.
We are also very keen to hear from people who are excited by making content for social media. To secure a role in this area you will have an understanding of social media and its various platforms and you will help contribute ideas to improve and build on the BBC’s success to date. You will need a broad knowledge and love of your particular content area and, ideally, you will already be creating your own video content and publishing it online.
Job Requirements
We are interested in your potential and attitude! Qualifications and past experience are not requirements for this entry-level scheme.
We aren’t looking for experience. It’s you as a person we’re interested in and why you want to come onto the apprenticeship. You do, however, need to have knowledge of BBC content and programmes as well as an interest in the wider media industry.
A passion for making and creating content – in a practical way or through creative thinking and developing ideas.
We’re looking for people who can offer a new perspective to the BBC that will help us reach new audiences as well as continue to deliver the kind of programmes that existing audiences know and love.
We want apprentices with a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude, who are prepared, and able, to tackle circumstances and situations which can, at times, be challenging.
You must be able to work flexibly as working at the BBC is not always a Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, job.
You should be keen to learn and have the motivation and ability to combine working in a professional media environment with apprenticeship study and additional training.
